What's a linocut?
A linocut is a subtractive printmaking technique where a piece of linoleum is carved using a special carving knife or other instrument. Sometimes I use an exacto knife for the fine areas of the prints. All images will be printed in reverse. So any letters or pertinent information that needs to be read in a certain direction must be carved in reverse.

How "handmade" are your cards?
Well, all cards are designed, carved and printed be me, that is 1 person, Melissa Kate McMurtrie. I dream up something I'd like to make into a card, search for some images of that thing, or just draw it from memory. I then transfer the hand drawn image onto a linoleum block. That block is then carved by me and then printed by me. I don't make the paper myself, but come on, that's asking a lot!

What exactly does eco-friendly mean?
Because the environment is important to all of us I like to make it a top priority in my items. Every paper I use is manufactured in a hydroelectric mill and no chlorine bleach is ever used on any color! The paper, card stock and envelopes I use are manufactured by the French Paper Company, a family owned business based in Michigan. I use 100% recycled envelopes exclusively and am now offering a range of 100% recycled cards. If you are interested in a particluar design that is not yet availabe in a recycled version please feel free to contact me for a special order.

Are all of your cards recycled?
I am moving closer to a fully recycled line, but at the moment I have a mix of recycled and eco-friendly card stock. Click here for recycled cards.

Can I buy 5,000 of the same card?
Sure, I'd love it! But give me a little heads up, okay? As stated in the handmade section, I make all of these cards by myself, by hand. That means folding the paper and everything! So if you're looking for a very large order, please contact me to discuss time frame and pricing. I'm very willing to do wholesale and will consider consignment, just ask!

Wholesale and Consignment
I'm always glad to consider new wholesale oppurtunities. If you are interested in carrying my line of cards in your shop for wholesale or consignment please contact me for further details.
